Triple Conjunction

A Triple Conjunction, May 25, 2013. There's a special kind of serene beauty when planets appear close together in the dusk and dawn sky. Usually we see just two planets forming a close conjunction, but on this evening we had three — Venus closest to the horizon, Jupiter to the upper left, and Mercury to the upper right. Each evening for several days the planets changed their positions in sort of a celestial dance. On the night of May 26 the three planets seemed even closer together.

This photograph was taken near my home on the Bruce Peninsula, looking across part of Georgian Bay.
