Moon, Venus, Jupiter, Mercury December 31, 2008. The year 2008 ended with a lovely close conjunction of the crescent Moon and Venus. About two degrees apart, the two made a striking pair above the frozen winter landscape. The planets Mercury and Jupiter appearing just one degree apart added to the scene. They are visible to the lower right, just above a snowy cloud bank streaming in from Lake Huron. While walking home after taking this photograph, the sky clouded over and it began to snow. This photograph was featured as a SkyNews Magazine Photo of the Week. Astro Photography Home Page |
