The Moon and Pleiades

The Moon and Pleiades, July 20, 2006. This photograph was taken at 2:53 a.m. and it shows a 24% illuminated Moon passing in front of the Pleiades star cluster. The Pleiades is also called the Seven Sisters, and when the photo was taken the Moon was just about to pass in front of the star Merope, one of the sisters.

It was very peaceful standing on the shore of Georgian Bay watching this beautiful scene unfold.

This photograph was featured on the SkyNews and Sky & Telescope websites.
