Moon, Fireworks and Lake Biwa, Aug. 5, 2008. For centuries the rising and setting Moon above Lake Biwa in Japan has been a favourite subject of poets and painters. People from all walks of life enjoy the serene beauty of the Moon reflected in this ancient lake's waters. There are times however when the view is anything but serene!
I took this photograph from the shore at Nagahama, during the annual fireworks display the city is famous for. The thin crescent Moon, visible near the centre of the photo to the right of the smoke, gave up centre stage for an hour or so while the fireworks dominated the sky.
