Harvest Moon, October 6, 2006. The full Moon closest to the first day of autumn is often called the Harvest Moon. This year the date was well into October, instead of the usual mid-September time. This full Moon was also at perigee, meaning that it was at its closest approach to Earth in its orbit, so it appears a bit larger than usual.
Several passing cars slowed down and stopped to enjoy the view while I was taking photographs. This image was featured on the SkyNews website and on The World At Night website, and it was published in SkyNews Magazine (Jan-Feb 2007).
