Cygnus, September 13, 2007. The constellation Cygnus the Swan flies high overhead during summer nights in the Northern Hemisphere. The Cygnus star cloud section of the Milky Way is a great place to explore with binoculars, reclining in a lawn chair on a warm summer night. This photograph was an 18 minute exposure. About a quarter of the way over from the left of the photo, and about a third of the way down is a pinkish cloud. This is the North America Nebula. Here is a closer view of that part of the sky.
