Astro photography

Aurora and Geminid, December 14-15, 2006. The spectacular aurora display this night had a special bonus. It happened to occur near the peak time of the annual Geminid meteor shower. The streak of light above the pine tree is a Geminid meteor vaporizing in the Earth's atmosphere while the aurora storm was underway. This was one of two Geminids I captured with the camera during the aurora display. The second zipped by less than a minute later in almost the same location. This photograph was featured on the SkyNews website.
