Aurora, no.2, April 11, 2010. It has been several years since I've seen an aurora this bright and active where I live. This photograph was taken from the field in front of my home. During the exposure a car drove by on a nearby road, lighting up the trees. The two lights on the horizon, at left, are on Cape Croker, about twenty km. away. Note the reflection of the aurora on Georgian Bay beyond the trees.
Activity on the Sun triggers aurorae, and it has been at solar minimum for the past couple of years. The Sun is showing signs of increased activity now, and we can expect more frequent aurorae in the years ahead.
