Atlantis and the ISS, June 19, 2007. The space shuttle Atlantis had just separated from the International Space Station a few hours before this photograph was taken, and the two were flying in tandem across the sky. It was a magnificent sight as the pair glided past Venus (the bright object on the lower right) Saturn and the Moon. The detail inset shows the distance between the two craft. I remember as a boy standing in the middle of a corn field with my parents and watching as Sputnik passed overhead shortly after it was launched. Astro Photography Home Page |
